Super Fairy Sunday

The last sneak peek from the premiere, introduces the handsome Neil Hopkins as Claude, the twin (or maybe he's just a brother now) of Claudine. I last saw Neil as Sean's brother on "Nip/Tuck" and as Charlie's brother Liam on "Lost",  yes I am an unashamed recovering Lostaholic. Seems like playing brothers is his forte (yes I know he is in many shows in unbrotherly ways, roll with the jokes). I don't like ugly troll faes while they are at home in dried up Fairyland, I'll stick to CH's beautiful book fairies, thank you fairy much.

Poor Sookie Stackhouse. When we last saw Louisiana's sexiest telepathic waitress, she was devastated to learn that her lover, Vampire Bill, had been ordered to seduce Sookie (Anna Paquin). It didn't matter that Bill (Paquin's husband, Stephen Moyer) had fallen in love with her – the betrayal was real. And so Sookie is poised to fall into the arms of Vampire Eric, played by Alexander Skarsgård.

If a love triangle between vampires and a small-town waitress sounds over-the-top, then you probably weren't one of the 11.8 million viewers who watched the True BloodSeason Three finale. "It's easy to wonder, 'Oh, who is Sookie gonna pick?' " says Alan Ball, the show's creator. "I know it's female wish fulfillment, but it's also like, 'Well, who gets the prize?' All the vampires are going, 'She's mine, she's mine,' but why should she be anybody's? Why shouldn't they be hers? Why do men always get to make all the rules?"

This article appears in the June 23, 2011 issue of Rolling Stone. The issue is available now on newsstands and in the online archive.

Whatever Sookie's choice proves to be, she will also certainly be contending with a coven of witches who arrive to wreak havoc in town. "The big thing this year is witchcraft," says Ball, "and looking at how, in our world, certain humans are able to access magic."

"We've got witches, Wiccans and warlords, all things that begin with 'w' and are quite a dark influence," says Moyer.

Season Four also promises to have lots more glimpses into the distant pasts of the immortal characters. "There's some great historical flashbacks this season," says Moyer, whose character is 173 years old and fought in the Civil War. "We go way back in history in order to move the story along. There's a quite surprising flashback that takes Bill back to a place where I really wasn't expecting him to have been."

Ball is sanguine about how many seasons of the schlocky, sexually charged soap opera he has left in him. "I am negotiating for a season past this one," he says. "But I don't believe True Blood is 100 percent dependent on my participation. It has a very strong following and a really strong cast, and there could be a future where I step back and the show would continue."

In the meantime, though, Sookie, Eric and Bill undoubtedly have a lot more sucking,schtupping and killing to do. "That's part of the appeal," says Ball. "In a very safe environment, you can vicariously feel the power that one might feel if one were to solve one's problems in such a brutal way."

Ryan Kwanten Offers Relief For 'True Blood' Withdrawal In EXCLUSIVE PSA

Although the premiere is still a couple weeks away (June 26, to be exact), lucky for you and me, HBO has gifted us with the most wonderful treat for those most in need of a "True Blood" fix: an EXCLUSIVE video message from Ryan Kwanten!!

First, it must be noted that instead of hearing Ryan deliver his syrupy Louisiana drawl, we get to hear his much more swoonworthy Australian accent.

"If you tell your girlfriend you don't mind that she's a werepanther and you love her all the same, you're probably crazy," Ryan says to camera in the opening lines of the video. "And you are definitely suffering from TBW: True Blood Withdrawal."

This is followed by the start of a melodramatic piano soundtrack playing in the background, which brings a sense of tongue-in-cheek gravity and authenticity to the PSA-ness of Ryan's announcement.

"Hi, I'm Ryan Kwanten from HBO's 'True Blood,'" he says. "HBO has created TBWithdrawal.com. We just talked to Jessica Tuck, who plays the American Vampire League leader on HBO's True Blood, and she revealed that Nan is laying down the law in season four, doing her damnedest to repair frayed ties between humans and vampires. Her take-no-prisoners approach to controlling her vamp frenemies is going to make her a formidable figure this season. As Tuck puts it, "[This season] I'm much more the Nan everyone loves to hate."

So who's going to be hating her the most? Here's what we can tell you:

Q&A With True Blood Star Jessica Tuck

OK, so what is a post-Russell Edgington world?We have to regain the trust of the human population and just make people understand that Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare) was truly one bad apple and that all vampires are not like that. It is possible for us all to be mainstreamed. It's a world that is not as trusting as it was before. We have to make up some ground that we lost. It's safe, Russell Edgington has disappeared, and we can all move forward from it.

Can you summarize what we know about Nan's background and her position in the vampire world?
That's a really good question. I myself, Jessica Tuck, have been trying to figure that out. In terms of Nan's own personal background—and these are not evasive answers at all—I really know very little about her. To be honest, I think as a character she has evolved and has been plugged in in ways maybe the writers didn't anticipate at first, so I think my background has evolved as Nan has been discovered.cifics that I do know.

Is she prominent in the books?No, no, no, not at all. And originally I was supposed to [only] be in a couple of episodes at the beginning. I feel so fortunate that the writers have woven her into the existing storylines. That's the thing, there is no Nan in the books.

And what is her past or current relationship with the main vamps we know best, like Bill, Eric and Pam?You will definitely in season four find out how she is worked into everything. But I would be slapped on the hand if I revealed the tiny spe

Does Nan consider Bill, Eric and Pam to be reliable allies or is their relationship more adversarial?I think for Nan it's—what's that expression?—"her way or the highway." I think she likes to have things go her way. I don't know that she's necessarily very flexible. When the vampires do what she wants them to do she's very happy and when someone strays from the plan, she's less than happy about that. At times she feels like she's working with these vampires, and sometimes she feels likes she's working against them.

Do we know where Nan falls in the vampire hierarchy or how old she is?To be honest I don't know how old I am. But I will tell you this, I would think that in Nan's case it's more—she said in that episode when they were all in Texas, she says to Eric, "I'm on TV. I'm powerful." I think her persona and what she represents is as much her power as anything, but you never know.

Does Nan get out this season to interact with other supernatural communities?I think she has her hands full where she is right now, and she doesn't need to be dabbling in any other areas. [Laughs.] I'm so scared to open my mouth.

And what does Nan losing control look like?She does get angry, she uses the F-word quite a lot. [Laughs.] You can tell I'm a mother, can't you? I call it the F-word. Nan has a temper, she likes to have things done her way, and she's not afraid to bark out an order and scream and yell. That's sort of the way she loses her cool. It's such a contrast to her controlled self, her on-camera self, which seems very approachable and reasonable. She will unleash if needed.

True Blood is a very sexual show—does Nan participate in any of that this season?Nan keeps her clothes on. You're not going to see her deeply entangled in flesh. That doesn't mean she doesn't have her side like every other vampire. I think how she was discovered in the limousine last year as Russell Edgington rips the spine out of the newscaster, and she came up from having enjoyed herself with a young lady, that's certainly not beyond Nan, to enjoy herself.

What's the main thing to look forward to from Nan this year?I spend a lot more time out from behind the camera, [dropping] my spokesperson personality. I'm much more the Nan everyone loves to hate. I spend a lot more time in my black leather than I do my nice suits. Let's put it that way.

How do you feel about that leather?I must say, I really enjoy that a lot. It's not how I dress in life, so it's this fantasy I get to live out on camera. I certainly don't run around screaming, yelling and barking orders in my real life. So to be able to sort of exercise things that way is fun as well.

Eric wouldn't be.

Those creepy trolls, looks like Sam getting some, Jason as catnip, Jessica getting a snack, Marnie creeping out Lala and then turning into the true source of her power for a moment, Hallow? Looks like it will be action packed.

Basic Black Tuesday

Last night I was spoiler hunting and didnt even notice this photo as being new. I knew watching Game of Thrones first would put me in a frame of mind not conducive to True Blood sleuthing, that show leaves an impression. Anyway look at our vamps, they are hanging with Nan and did Stephen forget to remove his real life wedding band?  It's good to see Ausiello showing TB some love again on TVLine.com
Much has been made about True Blood‘s upcoming fourth season being one big witchapalooza, but what about the vamps?! Yep, they’re still around — and in the throes of a massive PR campaign to repair their tarnished image in the wake of all that Season 3 nastiness.
Leading the charge will be vampire mouthpiece Nan Flanagain, played by newly series regular-ed Jessica Tuck, pictured below holding court with fellow full-time Blood suckers Stephen Moyer (Bill), Kristin Bauer (Pam), Alexander Skarsgård (Eric) and Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica). “We’re living in a post-Russell Edgington world everyone,” Nan reminds her flock in the June 26 premiere, “and we win back the human public one smile at a time.”
But the road to redemption will be a bumpy one, according to executive producer Alan Ball, who reveals that Marnie Stonebrook — the spiritual medium character played by Fiona Shaw — will prove to be the vampire community’s biggest threat. Teases Ball: “She is going to discover a way to have power over them.”

 revealed on TwitterMonday night, Cliff Clavin left a nice surprise in my mailbox Monday afternoon: the first three episodes of Season 4! I can’t wait to watch them sometime this weekend! Kidding! I’d barely sat down on my couch when I had those bad boys finished off. And you know what? I’m going to declare that the show gets off to its strongest start yet. The trouble is, there’s not much I can tell you without spoiling one of the biggest (literally and figuratively) twists in the series’ history. But give me a second, I’ll think of something… Oooh, there’s a very subtle clue in this trailer. Also:

Ausiello: The deal is you need to sit yourself down and pay attention, because you know that surprise romance I teased above? I think it’s the same one exec producer Alan Ball is referring to in this next quote, which was a response to my question about which couple he had the most fun writing for this season. “The one that I had the most fun with is one I can’t reveal, because it comes as a surprise,” he tells me. “But certainly Eric and Sookie, as fans of the books will know, get a lot closer this season, and that was really fun.”

Question: I love love love Evan Rachel Wood on True Blood! Please tell me we will see her in Season 4. —Hayley
Ausiello: Oh, hell yes. Queen Sophie Anne is actually at the center of what will probably go down as one of my favorite scenes of the entire series.

True Blood's Shapeshifting Kid Brother "Still Has a Big Crush on Jessica"

Sam Merlotte's (Sam Trammell) shapeshifter sibling tells us that Tommy's feelings will continue to affect his character in season four, saying, "He still has a big crush on Jessica. But how that plays out...I don't know, but Tommy will forever—that's his first crush. She's hot. Superhot vampire. He could meet a new hot person, but there's just something about that first vampire that you get the hots for." Well said, young pup.

Sunday Has Part 2 of The Premiere

Wow, now I know that article saying no more previews was talking out their booty. The second part of the first scene for season four!


20 years of eating light up fruit, oh Earl, you must have some case of the runs, fae style. Queen Mabe makes an entrance, fairy bitch! So Ball made a big leap from the books by making vamps such a threat to fairies by drinking them dry, my reaction right now is a big shrug and a sigh. Fairyland is a nasty ghetto with cracked out fruit? Niall please save us.

Sookieverse has the same opinion as I did of  that Fairyland crap, so glad this seems to be the end of it, though I will miss Miss Lloyd.

I'm thinking that article I read, cant remember where though it is somewhere on here, is wrong. It said only one more preview till the premiere, seeing this one today seems like we'll have more before the 26th. This billboard has been up a few days, it's on Sunset Blvd.in Weho. I still don't like this poster. It poses my favorites to all look so predatory in a not cool way, Sookie is too complacent in it also, like a mentally impaired victim.

Casting Call Thursday

So looking forward to Terry having more exposition, a friend from his army days! Will Russell make a grand re-entrance in the finale, I'm hoping so. Why didnt he have a child to come free him like Eric had Pam do? As old as he is, he had to have more than just Talbot (bows head at his mention), the king was randy.

You get involved this season with a woman named Luna (Janina Gavankar of "The Gates" and "The L Word"). What can you say about that?

I had the family kind of dynamic happen last season with my brother and my two biological parents, and by the end had cut them offf. And this season I have a different kind of family that I'm going toward.

She's a shapeshifter, so I can really connect with her, and she's also very mysterious, and I think Sam is drawn to that. She's kind of like Sam in a lot of ways. He was and still is to a certain extent a mysterious character in town. ... I don't think anybody knows about him killing two people.

In addition to her I meet these other shapeshifters and there's a real community of shapeshifters. This year we explore the mythology of shapeshifting.

Will we see Sam next season deal with his anger issues?
We saw him go off the edge little bit when he went on that drinking binge and almost killed that guy. But he was pushed pretty hard. It certainly was a breaking point when he beat that guy up last year. A lot of his anger issues came rolling back to the forefront. He's going to have to do a little bit of work on himself this coming year in terms of controlling his emotions.

NATALIE: When the show returns, Sookie will reconnect with some familiar faces in Fairyland. (Watch the first three minutes here if you want to find out who!) But the glowing lumières the fairies offer up as a snack notwithstanding, it won't be all sweetness and light. Sookie will have a lot of questions for Claudine, her fairy godmother. First up: If she's supposed to be Sookie's protector, where the heck has she been all this time?

Where We Left Off:So many cliffhangers: Sam shot his brother. Tara left town. Hoyt and Jessica moved in together while his mom bought a gun. Jason was left in charge of a brood of drug addicts. Eric told Sookie that Bill had set her up from the beginning. Sookie banished Bill and jumped into the magic hole leading to fairyland. Whew!

What's Next: So much, but here are the biggies: Get ready to meet a clan of witches, and watch for a new Eric… one who can't remember a thing!

‘True Blood’ creator Alan Ball talks about Sookie’s struggle in Season 4

We’re getting some interesting details about the upcoming season of True Blood straight from the source today!

While speaking to TV Guide for their Summer Preview, creator Alan Ball explains what Sookie will be up against:

“There are two factions at war: vampires and another fueled by witchcraft and power over the dead,” says creator Alan Ball. Battles go down and Sookie’s lightning-bolt-shooting fingers strike again. “We see her use her powers,” Ball says of Anna Paquin’s steel magnolia. “Other people see that too, and it’s going to complicate things.” She’s not the only one releasing her inner magic. Tara and Lafayette get mixed up with Wiccan medium Marnie (Fiona Shaw). And witches cast a spell on Eric: “Sookie will see a different Eric,” Ball says, but she’s still feeling heat with Bill and Alcide. “From the Team Eric, Team Bill viewpoints, one of those teams will be happy, one won’t.”
