WSJ's recap bites- As vampires frolic, Eric destroys the tainted TruBlood. Jessica remembers that they left Bill behind and goes to get him. He’s resisting the Lillith spooks as she goes to him. New fling James suggests they feed him, give him back a little of the special blood that he gave them. It worked and the vampires, who now count Jason among them, at least in part, go off to party– except for Pam and Eric. “Don’t you dare leave me,” she says, just before Eric shoots into the sky.

Billith has the soldiers lead him to the white room from his visions. Meanwhile, a blood-spattered Sarah Newlin prays as she climbs the exterior stairs to the top of the silo, where she starts hauling on a giant wheel. Good Lord is this ridiculous… But sure enough, the ceiling of the white room begins to open… and there is Billith, letting all the vamps in the room feed on him (and Barlow – because when you drink someone’s blood, you’re drinking the blood of every other person whose blood that person has drunk. Practice safe blood drinking!). Well, everyone except for Steve Newlin (Michael McMillan), who looks like odd man out at the orgy. Eric grabs Steve by the throat, calls him a turncoat, and pushes him into the sunlight… and Steve looks up, sees blonde-nimbused Sarah on the roof (she squeals, “Die, f*ckers!”), and cries, “I love you… Jason Stackhouse!” On the other side of the “Open Your Heart” peepshow glass, Jason peeps in horror and covers his ears. Steve explodes. It’s really gross… and by that I again mean pretty awesome. I loved actor Michael McMillan in the role, but holy crap that character sucked by the end…

Is the old Southern Gent Bill back? Will he ever bring Puffy out again?

Whole synopsis from HBO- To save Warlow, Sookie bites her wrist and feeds him her blood. Bill, impatient to save vampirekind, attempts to leave with him but Sookie demands he find Eric instead. After all, Eric has more Warlow blood than Warlow himself. When he threatens to kill Sookie if Warlow won't get them out, she blasts him out with her hand light.
Warlow asks Sookie if she was prepared to be his last night, having come with Bill. She assures him that she'll keep her promise and heads back to Bon Temps for Terry's funeral.
Eric makes a daytime visit to vamp camp and goes on a rampage of death and destruction. His first major victim is Dr. Overlark-whose "manhood" Eric rips off before leaving the "doctor" to bleed out. He moves on to male Gen Pop and frees them all.
Bill arrives at vamp camp in search of Eric. Crazed vampires run amok through the facility, torturing the guards and scientists in kind. Meanwhile, Eric frees female Gen Pop and discovers Jason, weak and covered in bites. In exchange for helping him find Pam and the others, Eric heals Jason, promising that he's "in for a real treat."

About last night's music recap  Astute rock fans will recognize that song as one written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney for the Rolling Stones. Released as an early single by the Stones in England in 1963, the song served as a B-side to the Stones’ cover of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” in the U.S. the following year. Vulture's Recap- "Thank you, Big John," the widow Bellefleur hugged the Merlotte's short-order cook at her husband's funeral. "That was the shit." And so too, was "Life Matters," aTrue Blood episode for the ages. This series has always been a study in contrasts, mixing horror, drama, and comedy like a fast food chemist combines sugar, fat, and salt. (The results in both cases can range from wholly satisfying to straight-up disgusting.) But "Life Matters" took its contrasting elements and really tested the limits of what an average True Blood viewer might put up with.First of all, yes, it definitely gave us the thrilling, intensely satisfying climax to the vampire camp plotline, but it also asked us to patiently observe the understated, plot-free pathos of a small town mourning a third-tier character. Depending on your affection for the Bon Temps microcosm True Blood had gotten away from over the past few seasons, "Life Matters" was bound to be divisive. (If you were among those questioning why Terry's death had gotten so much play this season, there's a chance this episode made you quit this series entirely). But look. I realize there's a fine line between raving about an episode of True Blood and having mental problems, but I don't care: From concept to execution, "Life Matters" was very likely True Blood's finest episode to date.

LATimes' recap-  In a series of flashbacks, friends and family recall how Terry returned from the war a broken man and slowly put his life back together. When it’s time for restaurateur Sam Merlotte to speak, he recounts the time Terry caught a catfish but didn’t have the heart to let it die.“Every life matters,” Terry once said to Sam. “Throw it back.”
Telepathic Sookie describes how Terry was instantly attracted to future wife Arlene 
“He loved you since the second you walked into his life,” says a tearful Sookie, who’s comforted by hunky werewolf buddy Alcide. Meanwhile, a horrific scene unfolds at Vamp Camp, where Eric literally rips the guards to shreds, then opens the prison doors.

TVLine's- DON’T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME- Just outside of Vamp Camp, Sarah – blathering Bible quotations every step of the way – scales the Sun Parlor of Doom and exposes Jessica, Tara, Willa and Co. to the light. But aha! She’s too late. Bill has already made his way to Vamp Camp, finished what Eric started with the torture doc (by stomping on his head) and realized that he doesn’t need Eric at all, he can use his own Warlow-saturated blood to feed and thus save everyone. The only fanger not spared? Steve. Thrust into the glare by Eric, Sarah’s former husband looks up at her and yells, “I love you… Jason Stackhouse!” Classic.

Steve's last words were, "I love you, Jason Stackhouse."If this were Lost, Jason would be Steve's constant. And it's not only Steve's final proclamation for his one true love, but it's also a giant fuck-you to his ex-wife. It was a line I actually pitched to [showrunner] Brian Buckner. One of the things I missed most this season was that Ryan Kwanten and I hadn't had any scenes together, so when they called and said I was going to be killed off, I asked, "Am I going to have any more scenes with Ryan?" And Bucky said, "No, but he's going to be at the camp and he'll be watching from the observation room when you die." And so I said, "Then I want my final words to be, 'I love you, Jason Stackhouse.'" "Will that make you feel better?" "Absolutely." And he wrote it into the script. [Laughs.]What was it like shooting your True Death scene and getting burnt to a crisp?
I actually had a stunt double, Tim Eulich, so I didn't have to do that stuff. I had to imagine catching on fire and dropping to the floor as a pile of goo. What they do is take images of the stunt double burning, and overlay them on me, and then the last image of Steve as a charred corpse before he explodes into goo is the stunt double. It looks like an extremely overcooked soufflé. It's like very crispy and crunchy on the outside, and hot goo on the inside. Crispy vampire soufflé. Did you see this coming for Steve? How much advance warning did you get?
Steve was really digging himself into a hole this season. Steve Newlin is the Jabba the Hutt of the True Blood universe. He has a very important place in the mythology, but he's not going to help Luke Skywalker blow up the Death Star, you know?

I'd love to answer the question, but the truth is, I don't know! And I'm not sure if the show is ever going to answer it or not. At one point, we were going to find out last season, and it was written out in the script, but they scratched it out.

If you got to choose between Eric forcing Steve to burn in the sun, or Eric doing to Steve what he did to Dr. Overlark, what would you have picked?I would like to die with genitals intact, I think. And it’s a fitting end for Steve too. Meeting the sun was, of course, the only way he should have gone. That was his whole thing in season 2 [with the Fellowship of the Sun], so it was a nice twist of irony at the end.
And Steve’s last line — “I love you, Jason Stackhouse!” — was your idea.
That line was a real gift from [showrunner] Brian Buckner. In that conversation where he told me that they were gonna be killing me off, I had asked if I was gonna get a chance to work with Ryan Kwanten again. We hadn’t worked together all season, and that was really my only disappointment from this year, because I just love working with Ryan and I always love the Jason-Steve stuff, and I felt that they had left that door open for more. In my mind, Jason was always Steve’s true paramour. So when he told me that we weren’t [going to work together], but Jason would be present for Steve’s execution, I asked him if my last line could be, “I love you, Jason Stackhouse,” and he said yes — if it would make me feel better. He wrote it into the script, and that was super kind of him.Did Alexander Skarsgard do anything special for you?
He gave me a very personal sendoff in the gag reel, which nobody but cast and crew saw. It was somewhat inappropriate and somewhat hilarious, but beyond that I really can’t describe it too much. [Laughs]I’m thinking there might have been skin involved then.

Revenge of the Sub-Plot: I thought Sookie was dressed to become a vamp last week, but that lace number was for the funeral. You've heard me snark on Terry, but I'll be gosh-darned if Arlene didn't throw a good funeral. The flashbacks were far from gratuitous -- they were beautiful. Can we talk about Chris Bauer as Andy Bellefleur? He has always been good for a mid-episode laugh, but when he flashed to calling his cousin out of PTSD-land in the woods with a Raging Bitch IPA joke and brings Sam along for a catfish hunt? He kills me. Sign this man up! There's something about the gurgle in his voice, how he says sweet things but sounds like he's angry -- there's something so human about him. After all of this time, I realized that Andy, Lafayette, and every scene at Merlotte's hasn't been for naught -- it's what makes the show so very magically real. I will never be able to fry anything again without thinking of Lafayette putting some back into it. We all complained about the Terry plot. But it was taken back tonight. It was the perfect mix of nostalgia running alongside the vamp action. We weren't saying goodbye to just Terry -- we were wishing Bon Temps as we know it farewell. For now, at least.

Interview with Anna Camp- When did you get wind that you were coming back to the show?
They tried to get me back for Season Five. But just for a little bit. But I was shooting The Good Wife at the time and couldn't get away. This past season, some things started happening with The Mindy Project and that character wasn't quite going the way they said it was going to go and I got sorta released – I asked to be released from that contract. I think True Blood got wind of that and they called me up right away and said "do you want to come back?" And I said "heck yeah I'll come back. I'd love to."
If you had to equate Sarah to a modern, real life person – who do you think she's most like?
You know, I know the writers were doing a dash of Palin. I grew up in the South and I did know some people that believed the reason everything happened is because God was willing it to be that way. So I don't know if it's anybody particular that I could name off the top of my head, but there are people, truly, that think everything is a sign from God. Whether it's raining out or they get a good parking spot – she's that type of person.

EXCLUSIVE from Deadline: Meryl Streep is poised to join Jeff Bridges and a fast growing cast in The Giver, an adaptation of the Lois Lowry novel that Phil Noyce will direct. Streep is in talks to join a shoot that starts in eight weeks in South Africa, in a co-production between The Weinstein Company and Walden Media. While there has been a plethora of movies involving dystopian young adult novel storylines,The Giver was ahead of its time, winning the Newbery medal in 1994. It was also a book widely read in Harvey Weinstein’s household by his daughters.

Poor Jason, still better than werepanthers and Violet is so damn earnest about him. Maybe Jason could use a dominatrix to keep him in line and protected.

Finale spoilers from EW, really ones we knew from the episode synopsis, but embellished nicely-  True Blood closes its sixth season Sunday with an hour that exec producer Brian Buckner says won’t be as bloody as last week’s Vamp Camp massacre. What can fans expect: The first half of the episode focuses on Sookie (Anna Paquin) and “a less patient” Warlow (Rob Kazinky), who expects her to follow through on her promise to become his fairy-vampire bride. There’s a “significant time jump” in the second half of the episode, Buckner says, which will help move the action back to Bon Temps for next season so it won’t feel like separate vampire, fairy, and werewolf shows — which the actors are excited about. “We have a couple of scenes at the end of this season where we were all there. It was amazing to see, like, the 20 cast chairs lined up with names of people I only see once a month,” Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) told Entertainment Weekly managing editor Jess Cagle this week on EW’s SiriusXM channel. “What I’ve heard from Bucky, our new showrunner, is that he’s really interested in continuing that trend. So we hopefully will all be on the same show next year.”Bill (Stephen Moyer) will recognize the error of his ways. ”The question going forward is, can he be forgiven?” Bucker says. And yes, we will see Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), who appeared to leave town after his Vamp Camp murder spree and feeding Jason (Ryan Kwanten) his blood — for at least one scene. Buckner describes it as ”sexy and provocative,” adding, ”There’s definitely something for the ladies and the gay men. We might see a certain body part.” Sweet dreams, Jason?!
Of course, we’re not expecting a happy ending for everyone. Big picture, let’s not forget that we have vampires infected with Hep V and a continuing Tru Blood shortage. And on a personal note, now that Jessica is out of Vamp Camp, will she have to answer to Andy (Chris Bauer) for killing three of his fairy daughters? ”Well, that story is definitely not over. I remember when I first read that scene and what I was gonna do to those girls, my first thought was ohmygod, I don’t know how Jessica Hamby and Andy Bellefleur can be on the same show anymore. And I was almost certain that one of us was gonna be gone by the end of the year,” Woll said. “So we’re definitely gonna have to see a little more on that story in the finale.”

Some recaps bits and links- TVLine's,  LUCKY STIFF-  At Sookie’s request, Barlow agrees to help Billith save all our contract fangers from the Sun Parlor of Doom, provided that a) Billith doesn’t kill him afterward, and b) she consents to become his vampire bride. And, while the half fairy is fine with the first demand, the second one, she grapples with — mightily. She reaches out to Jason (via a tearful voice-mail message), tells Sam that she imagined a future for them (at just about the worst moment possible — more on that later) and finally visits her parents’ gravesite, having concluded that she’d “rather walk the earth as a corpse” than be laid to rest next to them. (Ouch.) But, when the bride-to-be gets all dolled up — it’s a nice day for a black wedding! — and takes Billith to fairy land, Barlow appears to be (but c’mon, can’t actually be) dead! Maybe he’s just a bloody napper? MORE

Unfortunately for the show’s obvious greater ambitions, it’s Sookie’s story—the story that is most focused on having its character be taken seriously— that ends up suffering the most. Sookie has always been a problematic character in that she is irretrievably controlled by the men in her life, and just when it seemed she might be able to crawl out of that trap she is sucked into it yet again via the war between Warlow and Bill. Bill wants to use Warlow to help him prevent his vision of all his friends meeting the sun, but Warlow will only go along with this plan if Sookie agrees to become his fairy vampire bride. Sookie starts out on the right path, talking a good game to both men about not wanting to be controlled by them, but instead of leaving Bon Temps for good and not looking in her rearview mirror, she immediately searches for salvation in the arms of yet another man, Sam.

This is where the show starts laying down narrative stakes its own past can’t really support. Sookie and Sam’s connection hasn’t been a whisper of a thing since who knows when, and even when it was something the show cared about it was never more than a passing thought as Sookie moved on to every other supernatural man in her path. If the show played her plea to Sam as the ridiculous comedy it is, it might work, but this is something we—and Sam—are definitely meant to take as a serious proposition, and it simply doesn’t track. Sookie then basically gives in to the fact she is destined to be Warlow’s fairy vampire bride for eternity, essentially eulogizing herself at her parents’ headstones and dressing for her own funeral. It’s intended to be a deathly serious rumination on Sookie’s realization that her life is about to end, but Sookie has been so cavalierly tossed around as a character for so long it simply doesn’t have the gravitas necessary to be successful. If the show of the past treated Sookie with the care this episode attempted to, though, this sequence really could have been something.

Back at the Concentration Vamp, Tara (Rutina Wesley) tells Willa (Emilia Blaire Clarke) to back away from Jason (Ryan Kwanten) , or Nameless Paulina Porizkova Vamp will get all up in her bids. Sure enough, Paulina tells Jason that he is her bloodbag for life – and she means that, because she’s “Medieval Times Catholic.” As someone who just went to Medieval Times for the first time just this past month, I can vouch: THEIR GARLIC BREAD IS ETERNALLY AMAZING.Sookie (Anna Paquin) returns to Barlow (Rob Kazinsky) – the super-powerful, dimension-jumping vampire faerie who has survived 6000 years – and ties him up again with a fake vine from the Party City luau collection. She gives him more blood and he asks her to marry him again, because he’s been waiting forever for her. She asks him to do a favor for her or all her friends are gonna die but he cries, ‘I DON’T WANNA WAIT!” … for your liiiiiives to be over? Too late. Eric overhears and locates Barlow with his Undead Douchebag sensors.
Jess (Deborah Ann Woll): “It was a good lay, good lay! It was a good lay, good lay.”
James (Luke Grimes): Uh-huh.
EW's- Sookie returned to the cemetery and to Warlow. She tied him up, fed him from her wrist, and then asked him how he’d feel about doing a favor, a “biggie,” for Bill. Warlow wasn’t exactly interested, seeing as how Bill wants to kill him. Sookie said she’d make that part of the deal -- that Warlow lives. Warlow wants his own condition then: If he helps Bill save Sookie’s vampire friends, she agrees to be his. He’s loved her for nearly 6,000 years (no, Warlow, you haven’t), and he wants to start his eternity with her now. Sookie said she’d need some time to think about it and came back into our dimension talking to herself about how all men are incapable of just wanting to date her. Eric was lurking behind a tree and began feeling around for the entrance to Warlow’s side.

Elsewhere in Vamp Camp, TruBlood representative Miss Suzuki demands to see the Governor, stumbling upon the hepatitis V bottling room, for which Sarah desperately chases her down and stabs her to death with her own shoe.

Two important things happened on Sunday's True Blood. First, everybody told Bill he sucks (he does suck. You SUCK, BILL). And second, the most epic girl fight in the history of shows about vampires who mash their naughty bits took place. To the Pro/Con mobile!
Okay, so was anyone else completely elated but also simultaneously bored out of their skulls by this episode? The fight was amazing, the weird Eric man-boy taunting was great, and so was the constant drinking. But the rest of the episode could have just been eight cast-members running around with their hands in the air screaming "True Blood!" Because it all seemed like just more filler.
Con: Meanwhile, back at the murderous werewolf pack, this girl character (who is not important enough for me to Google her name) is all pissed, because Alcide won't MURDER INNOCENT MOMS. When did this guy's girlfriend become some kind of weirdo murderer? When did werewolves get so stupid? Don't they have lives and trailers they need to protect? You can't just run around murdering everything, guys — at some point that will catch up with you. No matter how many naked woods threesomes you create along the way.
Pro: Sam can smell when his new girl is pregnant. So can Alcide. Because of course they can.
Pro: Does this mean Alcide is cool again? Out of nowhere, he's acting like a normal werewolf person, so that's nice? I don't know. I do love how everyone just forgot the he and his kin murdered the shit out of all those kids. More

"Destiny's too much of a bitch to keep fightin'," Sookie Stackhouse announces this week, and she's hardly the only character at a crossroads. Supes and humans alike debate their fates, leaving several characters feeling just like the episode's title: "Dead Meat." Sookie ultimately decides to accept Warlow's proposal and become "a walking corpse." In this week's Inside the Episode, Executive Producer Brian Buckner explains that Sookie is "looking for a lifeline." She futilely seeks guidance from Bill, Jason and Sam, but she can't find "hope to stay human," says director Michael Lehmann. more

Jessica is really dealing with a lot of regret.
Deborah Ann Woll: She's suffered from self-hate and self-doubt all along, so this is just a confirmation of all those fears; those fears that she is a monster because of these dark urges that she has. She thinks she's going to die, that's what Bill foresaw. She understands that's what's going to happen. She'll save as many of her friends as she can, but I don't think she feels like she has to work too hard for herself because it's not as bad if she doesn't exist. That's a pretty dark place for her to be.

Do you think her connection to James (Luke Grimes) might give her some sense of purpose?
Woll: I do. This is the first vampire who has really shown her that you can retain your sanity. We've all done bad things, but if we work hard at it and we care, we can get past it. That's a perspective that she hasn't heard before. James will continue to bring her out of her shell and help her find her self-worth and help her find a way to suppress these darker urges.MORE
