Designing Woman of True Blood and More

Alexander did phone interviews last week, one was posted earlier in the week. Here's another by Jody K, you might remember her from the much missed, The Nest. Photo courtesy of Skarsgardfans
I had a phone interview yesterday afternoon with Alexander…
There was a lot of feed back so AGAIN he had problems hearing me but I edited the conversation, removing the confusion between questions.
He had just returned to LA after a month of traveling and a short stop home to visit with family in Sweden. I’m sure he was exhausted but still had time to answer a few questions from you guys.
20 minutes goes by pretty quick…sorry I couldn’t get more answered…but maybe next time!!!

Listen to the whole interview at Askarsgard.com
The London Evening Standard has 10 Minutes with Alexander Skarsgard-
You’ve spent the past two months shacked up with Andrea Riseborough in a bomb shelter for the film Hidden, how was that?
Intense: we were surrounded by soot, dust and ash, and living on a diet of kale salad, a bit of protein and water. I’m pretty thrilled to be in New York now, eating like a horse.
The advert you’ve done with Lara Stone for the new Calvin Klein fragrance is very sensual, did you enjoy filming it?
It was wild and very gripping. We filmed in this weird dungeon with lots of sweat and leather, so it was very sexy and film noir.
Talking of sweat and leather, you’ve been identified as a potential Christian Grey in the film version ofFifty Shades of Grey, are you flattered or offended?
Of course it’s flattering, but I haven’t even read the novels so I don’t know whether I’m interested in doing it or not. I am interested to see what the hype is about.
Which smells remind you of your childhood?
It’s not very sexy, but there was a sausage factory near my house in South Stockholm so I remember the foul smell going to school every morning. It wasn’t the smell of a nice cooked sausage. More at link.

This week's Person of Interest featured Carrie Preston as Grace (again), from io9's recap of the episode-
We go back to 2004, when Finch was first training the Machine. He's showing Ingram how he's trained the Machine to find "anomalous" people, or "outliers." ("Should an introvert like you really be teaching a Machine about human nature?" Ingram wonders kind of rudely.) After singling out a few unusual people in the park, the Machine highlights a woman who is painting nearby. It's Finch's future wife Grace (played by Michael Emerson's real-life wife Carrie Preston)! There's nothing unusual about her, other than the fact that she seems extremely nice, so Finch assumes it's a bug. But then, a year later, the Machine singles her out again when Finch is teaching it to find connections between people.
By now you've figured out that the Machine played matchmaker between Finch and Grace. Which is kind of awesome. Eventually, a year after the Machine points out the connection between Finch and Grace, Finch finally gets up the nerve to talk to her. I think by now we have ample evidence that not only is the Machine a sentient creature, but it also cares deeply for Finch and probably knows him better than any human. It knows and loves him enough to introduce him to a woman it has picked out as anomalously connected to Finch in some way.
The very talented Audrey Fisher has her own website now, featuring her costumes through the five seasons of the show as well as other work she's done. If you need a reminder (as if, right?) of the varied personalities she dresses in such a perfect way the gallery will bring all the good memories rushing back.
Fisher finds designing for Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) inspiring, as almost anything goes, especially the color palette. Equally enjoyable is Pam (Kristin Bauer), who she dresses in dramatic, sexy shapes to fit the story line that this fashion-forward vampiress has personal shoppers at her disposal in Los Angeles and New York. Fisher is most energized, though, when creating period costumes for the show’s flashbacks that in past episodes have included the 1920s, 1930s, 1850s, Vikings, fairies and even goblins. “If we were just doing rural Bon Temp all the time, that would get a little tedious and this allows me to do crazy, weird,” she laughs. She thrives on the change-up because it jump-starts her creativity within a restrictive set of boundaries in terms of budget and prep time. Where some designers may find this process nerve-racking, she finds it exciting. SOURCE

Nelsan Ellis is in Oz for the Supernova Festival via Brisbane Times,
Filming HBO vampire drama True Blood may look like a lot of fun, but it turns out there is a downside.“The consensus on our show is that everybody hates the f---ing blood,” says the Nelsan Ellis, 34, who plays flamboyant clairvoyant Lafayette Reynolds.
The series, which eschews the twinkly bloodsuckers of Twilight in favour of rip and raw tactics, is infamously bloody.
“It's sweet and sticky and we hate it, because once it gets on the skin it dries," he said.
“But our boss is our boss,” he grins. “We can suffer in silence and with each other, but we can't do anything about it. So we just deal with it.”
Ellis is in Brisbane for Supanova, the annual pop culture pilgrimage for geeks, nerds and fanatics of all kinds.
more pics on Tumblr from Supanova.

True Blood has featured vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, fairies, and witches. But are fans as out there as the show itself?
“Yes,” Ellis replies immediately.
“The sci-fi fans in America ... they are die-hard. They will follow you to the ends of the Earth.
“Once they attach themselves to a show, and believe in the show and love the characters, they're there forever, and they're unshakeable."
Ellis expects to meet similarly obsessed Australian fans as part of the weekend event at the RNA showgrounds, although you'll have to forgive him if he's still a bit jet-lagged.
Ellis left Los Angeles as results from the US election began flowing in, and was relieved to find out mid-flight that Barack Obama had been re-elected president.
“The best person for the job is Obama,” he says. “And Obama needs to finish what he started.
“Rebuilding the middle class is the most important thing for our country, because the middle class supports everything else, the rich and the poor.”
True Blood's creator, Alan Ball, is a supremely adroit observer of the middle class, from his Oscar-winning American Beauty, to Emmy-winning Six Feet Under.
And Season five of True Blood (which screens in Australia on Showtime) has a definite political bent; with in-fighting at the vampire Authority, and a bunch of Bon Temps rednecks hiding themselves behind President Obama masks to target so-called “supes”.
“When you deal with Alan Ball, you're dealing with a person who is a genius in terms of how art imitates life,” says Ellis. “I think he makes a statement, and I think it's bold in season five.”

A richly-illustrated adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, told through the eyes of the vampire Claudia, who was just a little girl when she was turned by the vampire Lestat. Though she spends many years of happiness with her two vampire fathers, she gradually grows discontent with their insistence upon treating her like a little girl, even though she has lived as long as any mortal man...and her lust to kill is certainly no less than theirs. Available now at Amazon, link uptop.

Abre Los Ojos Sangrientos

BABIEEZ!!
From HuffPo
Is it too much to want to live in a country where everyone is equal, treated fairly and have equal rights?  I could care less who anyone else wants to marry or not marry, live with, love. As far as someone dictating what a woman can or can't do with her own body by law sets me off, so I don't even want to go there. Things that should be regulated are Wall Street, banks and automatic weapons, not vaginas. Science should be taught in all schools, education should be absolutely available for every American child, our future is bleak if it isn't. We should want the best for them and for each other. All this backsliding is why we are becoming like a third world nation, not because of any healthcare plan by a politician. Humans need to get their heads out of their asses, wake up and smell the True Blood. True Blood, a show that is an allegory for the human condition in the broadest sense, but it speaks to issues of love and equality and that's why we are all fans, we can identify.

From Mohegan Sun- We celebrated Halloween early with Rutina Wesley of HBO's True Blood, costume contests, masquerades and more on Saturday, October 27th.

This isnt new but we could always use some Kwality Kwanten, right?

TVOvermind has the Top Five HBO Badasses and of course Eric Northman is one of them, along with Al Swearengen, Omar Little and Arya.
True Blood has kind of gone goofy in recent years, but I remember back when it first started, there was no bigger badass than Eric. He's a vampire AND a viking? You really can't get much more badass than that. Unlike the constantly shifting Bill, Eric has always been straight up about his will to get the job done, no matter what. He's an impressive figure, and has earned a spot here.

Back From the Undead

This is how I looked and felt all week, minus the Fae bliss.
Back among the living and non-living, Sandy was the biggest bitch to bitch in bitchville. Hope you all made it through and are in one piece, I don't think any of us expected this storm to be so tragically epic. It was like a N'oreaster wrapped in a hurricane with a tsunami twist and it was a knockout to us city folk like no other. I only found out the absurdity of a postponed halloween when I went to a store with power and asked if the candy was half off. I was thrown when the guy said. "no because Halloween is Monday"! As if you can change the day of the New year, Xmas or Valentine's day, the world is bizarro right now peoples of earth.
Lack of electricity had one positive, I was re-reading the SVM books to pass the dark night away by candlelight. I'd forgotten so much of their plots because of watching the show. I suggest to any of you fans to grab them off your shelves and do the same, there are some goodies that the show just ignored that would have been better than any Authority crap and a happy wedding for king Russell as a bonus. I'm only up to book 8, after I catch up on everything I missed this week (like TWD, Dexter, AHS, Supernatural etc.) I'll get back to reading, because it's fundaMENTAL and all that.

I watch these movies and always laugh but now I have no doubt this is high comedy, see our Dieter? Michael Sheen is great in everything (Underworld's sexy Julien), he doesnt even have to wink in this one.
We had the pic on the right up last week but Celebuzz has it enlarged and a new one too, Holy Children of the Cornrow Batman!
DailyChilli has a nice long interview with Mr. Skarsgard, all at the link-
DC: What are you working on?
AS: We wrapped True Blood season five end of June early July, then I went to Vancouver for two months. I shot a film called Hidden. It's a post-apocalyptic film about a family in a bomb shelter. We wrapped just a couple of days ago.
DC: How was the experience filming Hidden?
AS: Pretty intense because the movie is based on a bomb shelter. It was pretty claustrophobic and I was low on energy. I was on this diet because I had to lose weight—my character was kind of skinny. For a couple of months I ate small salads and a bit of protein to lose weight. It was difficult. It was tough. I was tired and exhausted and it was very intense, but a great experience and I really enjoyed working on it. It's not a fun character to play, but I'm very happy I did it.

DC: Tell us about the character.
AS: It's about a family—a husband, a wife, their 10-year-old daughter—they're hiding in a bomb shelter, or actually a fallout shelter, that they found and have been down there almost a year. I don't want to reveal too much, but there's something—or someone—looking for them. So they're trying to hide and trying to survive.
DC: What other movies are next?
AS: I shot three films last year that are on the festival circuit now, or at least two of them are—Henry James' novel, What Maisie Knew, with Julianne Moore. We were in Toronto for the film festival and I shot another one called Disconnect. One calledThe East, about a group of eco-anarchist; they're editing it. All three will be out next year.

Here Comes Halloween

Here in the Northeast of the U.S. we are getting prepared for a hurricane, oh joy! It always something out here, but last year's freak storm was enough for me, people out of the city really suffered with power outages and flooding that lasted days and more. Fingers crossed all will be well for Halloween.  Update: Well this storm is no joke, I'm watching TWD and Dexter to get in a more light hearted mood, yeah it that scary.
Happy Birthday to stage, screen and television actor, our own Andy, Chris Bauer. Born on October 28th.

Elvira has a new comic out too! From DreadCentral-
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is excited to announce a new series of Elvira comic books set to debut in 2013. Working with author R.H. Stavis (Daniel’s Veil, Activision’s Transformers: War for Cybertron) and artist Jeff Zarnow (Godzilla, 68, Battle Beasts), the stories will focus on Elvira’s MISS-adventures centered around a backstory about Halloween. The collaboration was teased to audiences at the recent Stan Lee’s Comikaze event in September in Los Angeles.
“Unlike a typical licensing deal, we are bringing together the power of the Elvira brand, a top-notch female writer, and a rising artist to develop a new line of comic books independently,” says Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. “We will then find a publishing/distribution partner that shares our vision to unleash these stories to the world.”
Janina Gavankar continues with her music career with her latest, Waiting for Godot (aka story of my fucking life)

EW has the info on the long awaited return of Joe Manganiello to HIMYM-
Brad…my, how you’ve changed!
In the Nov. 12 episode of How I Met Your Mother, Joe Manganiello returns as Marshall’s old law school buddy, but as you’ll see from this exclusive first look, he’s looking a little unkempt.
Though definitely not the norm for the True Blood star, it got nothing but praise from Jason Segel, who applauded the actor’s willingness to play the HIMYM way. “Just knowing that Joe has that crazy body underneath that fake gut that we put on him — it’s just hilarious to me. He has no sense of vanity despite having every right to have one,” he told EW. MORE

Rainy Days & Hiatus Blahs

The all too quick departure of Roman, now why the hell didn't he ever drink from that blood vial? We'll never know, except that maybe Romalith doesn't sound as good as Billith. A little Vampira brightened up the gloomy day for us, as always. I wonder what kind of career Maila Nurmi would have had if she wasn't typecast and blacklisted?
Vote for True Blood and other faves at the Fright Night Awards.
