EXCLUSIVE from Deadline: Zac Efron has a new co-star in Are We Officially Dating?Deborah Ann Woll, who plays vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood, has signed up for the romantic comedy, which follows three male friends in New York City who make a pledge to stay single just as each of them starts to fall in love. Woll’s character is the ex-wife of one of the trio at the center of the film, which Tom Gormican is directing from a script he wrote. Production starts next month. Woll, who recently appeared in Ruby Sparks, is repped by CAA.

The wind is unusually calm. The sky is a cloudless blue. Cows are roaming nearby and actress Sara Canning has spent the better part of the morning punching her leading man in the face.
The action may seem a little out of place given the glorious surroundings. But that’s the point.
Today’s scene, without giving too much away, involves a wedding, a wedding crasher, a reluctant bride and, finally, that surprise right hook. But it’s not as easy as it sounds.
“It’s funny, throwing punches on film,” says the Edmonton-raised Canning, still sporting a wedding gown while on a lunch break from shooting. “Not that I walk around punching people every day. But there are a lot of specifics (on film). Certain camera angles will sell things differently and at different speeds. It gets very technical.”
So the scene is done over and over, all under the watchful eyes of Alberta stunt co-ordinator Guy Bews and director Jeremiah Chechik. Our leading man, Australian Ryan Kwanten, takes it all with good humour, slipping in and out of a flawless American accent as the cameras start and stop.

HBO's Carnivale's creator to run NBC's new Dracula series, from Deadline- EXCLUSIVE: Dan Knauf, creator of the cult HBO series Carnivale, has joined NBC’s upcoming 10-episode series Dracula as showrunner/head writer, working with series creator Cole Haddon. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to play the iconic vampire in Dracula, which is being produced for both NBC and UK’s Sky Living by Tony Krantz’s Flame Ventures; Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment; Universal TV; and NBCU International Prods’ Carnival Films & Television, the company behind phenom Downton Abbey. Based on an idea by Krantz, Dracula is set in the 1890s and is described as “Dangerous Liaisonsmeets The Tudors.” In it, Dracula (Meyers) arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Krantz and Callender are executive producing the series with Knauf, Gareth Neame and Anne Mensah. Haddon and Flame’s Reece Pearson co-executive produce.

Review of the Barrens from Besthorrormovies.com- It’s about time the public received a well-made flick based on the infamous Jersey Devil myth. This is a beast that’s been severely underrated in horror’s landscape. There aren’t too many motion pictures crafted around the concept, and when they are, they tend to be stinkers. Enter Darren Lynn Bousman, who just changed everything with his psychological frightener,The Barrens. The film tells the story of Richard Vineyard and his family (wife Cynthia, son Danny and teenage daughter Sadie) vacation into the Pine Barrens. Richard hasn’t been feeling well as of late, both physically and emotionally taxed due to the recent passing of his father. This trip that should by all means be smooth sailing, if not a bit melancholy, takes a disastrous turn early, when campers in the area begin going missing, only to resurface: mauled and disemboweled. It isn’t long before Richard becomes convinced that the Jersey Devil is indeed real, and he’s roaming the Barrens offing folks one by one. But Richard is an ill man. His health falls into a drastic downward spiral over the weekend and he’s begun to be plagued by hallucinations and extreme paranoia. Could the Jersey Devil be alive, well and in these woods feasting, or has Richard completely lost his marbles? That question is what drives the picture, and it drives it straight into a highly rewarding climax. This film is predictable on all fronts. That’s really my only complaint about The Barrens, and even that is a minor complaint, because Bousman throws viewers a curveball in the final moments of the film that only a diehard Bousman fanatic will spot and call accurately (I nailed it). Darren is a very visceral filmmaker, and the buildup created during the picture really only fueled my belief that he planned a big, unhappy sendoff. Despite seeing this conclusion from a distance, it still proves to be a highly rewarding finale that is indeed pretty bleak, but pretty damn wicked as well. Stephen Moyer makes for an impressive lead, and works dramatically different ends of the performing spectrum with conviction and ease. It’s not hard to buy into this man’s spin, and that’s only possible because Moyer turns in such a stellar offering. Rarely does a film truly thrive on one single character, but when they do, they either tend to soar or kamikaze outright. Moyer is so refined in his delivery (thank you god, and casting director) that this one flies high. This is a piece of art that while not completely without fault, works as an endearing and engaging mind bender. It’s even got replay value! I’ve watched it twice already, and I absolutely love the film. This is camera harmony right here, and it ranks amongst Darren Lynn Bousman’s absolute best. But Moyer isn’t the only one that exhibits some impressive acting chops. In fact, part of the icing on this cake comes with the fact that every key player is awesomely lifelike. These aren’t cardboard cutouts brought to life with awkward animation. These are very impressive thespians proving their worth in a talent rich field. I can’t imagine anyone involved in this ensemble having difficulty in gaining future employment after this treasure. Mia Kirshner is terrific as Cynthia, the wife who may be worthy of suspicion, Allie MacDonald is damn proficient as Sadie, Richard’s rebellious teen daughter and Peter DaCunha, who portrays Danny, is functioning with the prose of someone far, far more experienced. It’s about as close to the ideal group as one can conceive of. The Barrens plays out like a modern monster movie mixed with a vintage, almost David Lynch-like measure of mental terror. The script is strong (sans a silly line or two that just feels as though it kind of comes with the territory), the characters are terrific and brought to life by a team of actors fit to accompany the best the industry has to offer, and visually, The Barrens is surprisingly gratifying. Again, I believe this to be one of Bousman’s best, if not the best on his ledger to date. Take into account the fact that he’s the man responsible for the best of the entire Saw franchise (parts 2-4), Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Devil’s Carnival and Mother’s Day (to name just a few), and you’ll realize that’s a pretty powerful statement. No matter what, see this film. In "True Blood" Eric Northman , a Viking vampire. Northman is one of the most beloved characters in the series, he looks like a rock star and does crazy things, like ripping out hearts with his bare hands from the chests of people. How fun is that? It 's great fun! It's already five years that I played him yet I'm enjoying every moment of the character. Five years ago, when I read the script for the first time, I was doing another series, "Generation Kill", also by HBO, which is a very different production than "True Blood," everything was very realistic, shot with an almost documentary style, there are no twists or soundtrack. So I wanted that my next project to be something different, something new, something that was a challenge. I know they say here he's Macklyn but we know that could be a ruse or it's the M in M. Warlow, OOOH, so excited at the possibility! ETA UPDATE: OK, nix the Warlow desires, he's going to be Niall, Sookies way back grandfather, cant say which great he is since they had Grandpa Earl Stackhouse on the show and he isn't in the books. Is Niall his father or what, standing by for that scoopage?

He is still Bill but he is something different. TVLINE | So there is some of the old Bill in there? It is Bill, but it is a transformed Bill. He is not a completely new person. It’s not like his memories or his experiences have been left out and he’s just a baby. TVLINE | Can he revert back to the old Bill? Well, that’s the question: Is he going to be evil? What does he want? What is he going to do? Will he be able to revert back to Bill? That’s for future seasons. The implication, certainly, is that he is more ferocious. TVLINE | Did Luna die? You’ll have to watch [next season]. We didn’t see her die. TVLINE | And Russell? Is he really dead? He’s gone. We may see him in flashbacks, but he bit it. TVLINE | Also back at Comic-Con, you declined to tell me which couple you were having the most fun writing for this season because it would be too much of a spoiler. Three weeks after ABC opted not to give a back order to submarine drama Last Resort, the series co-star Robert Patrick has signed on a series regular on HBO’s vampire drama True Blood, playing Alcide’s (Joe Manganiello) father. Patrick first introduced the character on the hit HBO drama in the most recent fifth season where he did a three-episode arc, appearing in the three of the last four episodes of the season. He was tapped for the recurring gig in June, after his pilot Last Resort had been picked up to series by ABC. While the broadcast network stopped short of a formal cancellation of Last Resort, and the cast of the show are still under deals at Sony Pictures TV, I hear Patrick is being released so he can join True Blood.
TVLine says Arliss Howard is joining the HBO drama’s forthcoming sixth season in the series regular role of Louisiana Governor Creighton Burrell. The character is described as a good ol’ boy politician who has a major beef with vampires ever since his wife ran off with one, leaving him as a single father to their only daughter. Politically savvy and perhaps overly ambitious, Creighton tends to let his personal aspirations overshadow his humanity. Seems like the name is now Truman Burrell. Some updates to the casting calls are longer in a post specific to them (aint I all hoity toity now?). I'll keep adding to it as them get released. New Showrunner Mark Hudis talks to Haverford Magazine (scans at Skarsgardfans) Season five ended with our normally human-friendly vampire hero Bill Compton drinking the blood of vampire savior Lilith, exploding and reconstituting into something evil. “Certainly he’s not going to be the Bill we know and love,” says Hudis of the character’s evolution next season. “He’s going to have more bite, no pun intended.” What else can we expect? Following a season that dealt with more global issues (such as national vampire politics), Hudis wants to bring the action back to Bon Temps, the small Louisiana town that is home to the show’s central characters, and focus on telling fewer stories with more characters. (True Blood-ophiiles might also be interested to know that Sookie and Jason will spend the year searching for Warlow, the vampire that Sookie has been promised to.) Additionally, 90210‘s Amelia Rose Blaire has landed a recurring stint on the HBO hit, will play Nicole, a do-gooder who possesses the rosy outlook of someone that life hasn’t beaten down yet. She’s not concerned with money and more concerned with the doing what’s right. Blaire, meanwhile, will portray Willa, the daughter of Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell (played by Arliss Howard). I'm thinking Luna is a goner since Janina has been on set for the tv show Arrow. Not saying that she couldn't do both but given Sam's luck with women and shifter's dying after the human shift (like my Tommy), it seems likely. Poor Sam if this is how it turns out.

EXCLUSIVE from Deadline: Zac Efron has a new co-star in Are We Officially Dating? Deborah Ann Woll, who plays vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood, has signed up for the romantic comedy, which follows three male friends in New York City who make a pledge to stay single just as each of them starts to fall in love. Woll’s character is the ex-wife of one of the trio at the center of the film, which Tom Gormican is directing from a script he wrote. Production starts next month. Woll, who recently appeared in Ruby Sparks, is repped by CAA.
